1.2 release and new online character sheet!
Back at it with a new update. 1.2 includes a number of tweaks and additions to make the game play smoother, but, more importantly, the online character sheet has gotten a full revamp!
This new version has tutorial prompts throughout the character sheet to guide you as you make your character. Everything is explained as you go; you don't even need the book out. Plus, there's a number of helpful automations to help you keep track of all your character details. Check it out!
This updated playbook also includes all the following 1.2 changes.
Common moves
Basic moves | Updated the trigger on Inflict violence to be clearer. |
Basic moves | In the GM note of Overcome, removed the questions around using gear. |
For Overcome, the GM questions around gear were redundant with gear already being a factor in the costs.
Bonds | Updated Decay a bond to specify that the GM may inflict a cut on a lost bond. |
Losing a bond is meant to be powerful, and losing a bond with a significant character is supposed to draw consequences.
Combat moves | Updated Back off in Execute a gambit to clarify attempting to ignore the effect triggers overcome. |
Previously, Back off just made everyone be forced to hold back. However, being forced to sit out feels very bad for players, so I wanted to make it clearer that they can try to resist this effect.
Recovery moves | Changed "quick breath" to "quick rest." |
Recovery moves | Updated Major rest to only unmark 10 items, not all items. |
As I build more on the game, I'm realizing that marking items is going to be critical to a few of the systems. Restricting major rest's unmarking effect to 10 items prevents a game state where players have so many things to mark that it's no longer interesting. I'll likely continue to tweak this number as playtesting continues.

Character creation
Character creation overview | Reduced starting moves from 4 to 3. |
Character creation is a bit complex right now. Reducing some of the choices allows for more focus to be on the choices players do make.
Commander moves | Updated Feinting maneuver to only apply on a 13+. |
Fighter moves | Added wound threshold increase to Second wind. |
Fighter moves | Updated Pick fights to give a more impactful bonus for rolling +Resolve. |
Minstrel moves | Made the mark a song choice clearer on Minstrel casting and sheet magic. |
Minstrel moves | Made the bonus from Inspiring song apply to the Minstrel as well |
Knight moves | Updated Do this all day to give a bonus if you do roll with Vigor. |
Priest moves | Updated Preach to offer a bonus on rolling +Lore instead of a penalty on rolling +Resolve. |
Priest moves | Updated Divine Casting to include Compel Truth. |
Minor updates on major archetypes throughout, mostly to increase clarity. Also, on the moves that allow for rolling with a different stat, I've added more significant bonuses to rolling with the original stat. The goal is to make these moves feel good whether or not you're using them to cover a weakness or enhance a specialty.

Fine is a tag that accommodates special equipment. The idea is that you can bond with this equipment like you can with other characters. Think of how Isildur's sword was powerful to Aragorn not because of the metal it was made with but of what it meant to him and the other characters in the story. GM guidance on how to give out equipment with this tag is still being developed, but players can access this tag using the Blacksmith minor archetype.

More instructions for GMs is going to be my next focus, but, for now, updated some language to be clearer and more specific.
Level 0 adventure
The online character sheet talks about a "level 0 adventure" in a few different places. This concept is still being developed and wasn't ready for publication yet, but I'm working on a concept around one-shots. Stay tuned for more updates!
